About the site: Created after the close of the Second World War, Deutsche Welle has regularly operated as Germany's public international broadcaster since 1953 and is comparable to BBC World Service, Voice of America, and Radio France Internationale.

In late 1994, DW became Germany's first public broadcaster with and Internet presence. Over the past 12 years, it has evolved into a 30-language Web site DW-WORLD.DE. The news site, which focuses on German and European topics as well as the German and European views on world issues, is currently headed by Uta Thofern, while DW-RADIO is under the guidance of Miodrag Soric and DW-TV is led by Christoph Lanz.
